Kitchen Towel is a simple, textured knit, about hand-towel size. Its main feature is an optional removable button, which can be used to attach the towel more securely to a slippery towel bar, and help prevent the towel from sliding onto the floor when you dry your hands.

The .PDF tutorial for the removable shank button is included—keep an eye out for a second .PDF. (It’s a little dated, but includes photo instructions to help if you do like the button idea..)

Materials:

• About 230 yards of Bernat Handicrafter worsted-weight kitchen cotton or equivalent
• 1 pair of straight knitting needles OR a 24” circular needle used to work flat, in US7/4.5mm, or size needed for gauge.
• 4 removable stitch markers
• Tapestry needle
• Optional: 2 1”-1.25” buttons. It’s best to choose buttons after the work is finished, if possible, but in this case 1” buttons may work better than the larger ones shown.
• Optional: Waxed thread to form the button shank
• Optional: A needle to suit the buttons, if the tapestry needle is too big

Gauge:
Gauge is 8 sts and 16 rows of blocked garter stitch measured over 2”/5cm, or 7.5 sts and 11 rows of blocked American moss stitch pattern measured over 2”/5cm. Please note: this is a towel, and it is cotton, which will probably shrink when laundered, so a slightly different gauge isn’t really tragic in the scheme of things. But it will change your finished dimensions and may alter your yarn requirements.

Measurements:
As shown, this towel is about 15”/38cm wide by 22.5”/57cm long. Keep in mind that due to the natural materials suggested, it may shrink over time, with laundering.
