I designed this long triangular shawl based on a photo of a kite for the Zombie Knitpocalypse Knitting Retreat. This unique accessory has an interesting i-cord tail that can be woven through the loops on one end of the shawl for easy wearability.

A kite reacts against the air to create lift and drag but mostly flies best in a strong wind and this shawl is an honoring of friendships made at knitting retreats. Especially those friends who return year after year and embrace you heartily! Friends who have also lifted you up during strong winds throughout your time apart.

This is a checklist pattern with slow increases using fingering weight yarn, it works up with a repetitive textured stitch pattern that becomes soothing for the knitter. And serves to remind you of friendships rekindled, reacquainted, reestablished…

Note: This is a checklist pattern; each row is written out for ease of execution. However, this does make the pattern longer so please check to see if you want to print the entire nine pages.

FINISHED SIZE: Fingering: 24” along short edge X 43”, along long edge, blocked. (61 cm X 109 cm).
Worsted: 26” short edge x 45” long edge

Fingering sample was knit using 400 yards of Sun Valley Fibers MCN fingering (80% Merino, 10% Cashmere goat, 10% Nylon; 400 yards/366m per 100g/4 oz) in colorway: Plum Crazy AND 40 yards/36m or approx.8 grams) from one mini skein in colorway: I Can Fly.
Worsted sample was knit using Sun Valley Fibers Worsted (100% Merino; 220 yds/100 g /3.5 oz) per skein
MC: 3 skeins Speckle 009 & CC: 1 skein Purple Passion

ERRATA -
Pg. 9 Set-up Row: Change to contrast color. P5, bind off 8 (see note below), P7, (which will leave 8 sts on the needle in that section 7 times, bind off 8, purl to end. Turn work.
Also Pg. 9 Part 2 (Unattached I-cord): K4, slip 4 stitches onto LH needle and repeat from seven times more. Slip the 4 stitches on the RH needle back to the LH needle and proceed to Part 1.
