Kith and Kin
This is the pattern I designed for gifting socks to my family and friends, hence the name Kith and Kin which means the same thing in Old English. I hope that it chimes with you too. The aim was to create a pattern that was fun to knit and featured practical design features that the wearer would appreciate.
These socks are knit top down using a modified knit 2, purl 2 rib that gives a cosy fit around the leg and foot, without causing constriction around the calf or bagginess around the ankle. The reversible nature of the stitch pattern means that you can roll the socks over for a thicker cuff without affecting their appearance. I use a reinforced heel flap and graft the toe using Kitchener stitch.
The rib is worked over four stitches and twelve rows providing a rhythm to your knitting and doing the jobs of showing off stitch definition in solid colours and adding to the interest of multicoloured yarns.
