A great introduction to stranded colorwork, this hat is sized for the entire family. Choose any three colors with stark contrast for a bold and vibrant representation of the Southwest mountain ranges. A simple garter edging leads into simply beautiful Fair Isle, finishing with a classic crown of starburst decreases.
Sizes: Baby (Child, Teen/Adult Small, Adult Large).
Finished measurements: 11 (14.5, 18.25, 21.75)”/ 27.5 (36.5, 45.5, 54.5)cm circumference; to be worn with 2”/5cm of negative ease.
Needles: US 8/5.0mm (or size needed to obtain gauge)
For Baby size: 9”/23cm circular needle and/or 4 DPN’s.
For larger sizes: 16”/40cm circular needle and/or 4 DPN’s.
Optional: circular needle or DPNs 1 size larger than gauge needle for colorwork.
Gauge: 22 sts and 25 rnds = 4”/10cm in Stockinette stitch.
Yarn: worsted weight: 30 (35, 40, 45) yards/ 28 (32, 37, 42) meters Color 1; 65 (70, 75, 80) yards/ 60 (64, 69, 74) meters Color 2; 25 (30, 35, 40) yards/ 23 (28, 32, 37) meters Color 3.
Notions: stitch markers, tapestry needle.
Sample knit in: Dream In Color Yarn Classy with Cashmere (70% superwash Merino, 20% Cashmere, 10% Nylon; 200 yards/113g): Tex Mex (Color 1), Bermuda Teal (Color 2), Element 79 (Color 3).
