As part of our Shelter Charity Knitting, The Dapper Dog Project, our local shelter asked us for “kitten baskets”. They receive many orphaned infant kittens and they need to nestle the babies with warmed rice socks. The yarn must be machine washable and hold up to the teeny claws. They also requested the baskets be shallow to allow the kittens to crawl in and out on their own. The recycled cotton t-shirt yarn is perfect! We wrote this pattern to hold kittens and the warmed rice socks. We’ve made these in assorted little sizes for singles and multiple kittens, just modify the base.
