If you’ve been looking for a hat with perfect cat ears, you’ve come to the right place. This pattern will produce pointy, upturned ears, complete with a flat surface between the ears. Off the head it’ll look like a simple rectangle, but a few hidden elements make all the difference.

Maybe you want a sleeker pussy hat. Or maybe you just like cats. Maybe you want to add some personality to your outerwear. These are all legitimate reasons to knit a cat hat.

This hat stripes four colors of worsted weight yarn but you could very easily keep it to one color. It’s a relatively easy design with a complex bind off, accompanied by an illustration and photos to help you along.

Fun fact: The model in this hat is me. My head measures 22 inches and I knitted it in size S/M.
