TEMPORARILY DEACTIVATED: An updated version of this design is currently being worked on & the pattern will be available again once this is finalised.

KIWI TRAVELER was born when I decided I needed a stylish outer garment for travel, one that also needed to be easy to wear & exuded warmth without weight.
(The original was designed with mohair yarn & a 7mm needle, & while I still love the two I knit in 2016, I wanted to also experiment with a smaller needle size).

So in 2024 I knit 2 NEW VERSIONS using a 6mm needle. One yarn used is (also) MOHAIR, & the other is a mix of 60% Merino/ 25% Alpaca & 15% Acrylic.
Whilst they are knit to the same gauge, they measure slightly differently in final length, due to the properties of the different fibres used. The stitch definition is more pronounced in the non mohair yarn & I love that.
The measurements for both are included in the patten document along with BLOCKING AND SEAMING notes and photos.

CONSTRUCTION: Knit FLAT in one piece, with some simple cabling mixed in with knit & purl texture, the poncho is assembled with one seam to create a versatile & useful wardrobe item.

STYLING: You can wear it so your hands are free while your upper body is covered, or you can turn it around to produce a more assymetric look, & a longer length.
