Kjerste's Swanky Socks
With contrasting cuff, heel, and toe, these afterthought heel classics are great for newer sock knitters fearful of the heel turn and for experienced sock knitters feeling adventurous. This pattern includes written instructions for both the Magic Loop 2-at-a-time method and double-pointed needles, offering the opportunity to try the path you don’t usually travel. There are pros and cons to each but it’s handy to have the skills of both at your fingertips.
Magpie Fibers Swanky Sock is an ideal sock yarn, both soft and durable, holding up to years of wear. With so many lovely color combinations, get ready to fall in love with knitting for your feet.
Sizes:
Baby (Child’s Small, Child’s Large, Adult Extra Small, Adult Small, Adult Medium, Adult Large).
Finished Sock Circumference: 1-2” smaller around than actual foot circumference for a snug fit. Finished Sock Length: Toe shaping is 0.5-1” shorter than actual foot length for a snug fit.
Choose size based on actual foot/ankle Circumference:
Baby : 5-5.5” (4” Finished Sock Circumference)
Child’s Small: 6-6.5”, (5” Finished Sock Circumference)
Child’s Large: 7-7.5”, (6” Finished Sock Circumference)
Adult Extra Small: 8-8.5”, (7” Finished Sock Circumference)

Suggested Yarn: Magpie Fibers Swanky Sock, 80% superwash merino, 10% cashmere, 10% nylon (378 yards/346m per 115g/4oz skein); MC: 1 skein of Smoke and Mirrors, CC: 1 skein of Masquerade. If substituting, look for tightly spun, multiple plied wool sock yarn, with at least 10% nylon for durability and longer wear. Swanky Sock is very stretchy.
Suggested Needles for Magic Loop 2AAT version: US size 1/2.25mm, 40-47”/100-120cm circular needle OR size needed to get gauge
Suggested Needles for DPN version: 4-5 DPNs in size US 1/2.25 mm - 6”/15.24cm length OR size needed to get gauge.
Notions: Tapestry needle for weaving in ends, a removable stitch marker, waste yarn.
Gauge: 30.5 sts and 43.5 rnds in 4”/10cm. Measured over stockinette stitch in the round after blocking
Difficulty Level: Intermediate. Suitable for beginning & advanced sock knitters who are procient at the following skills: Knit & purl, knitting in the round, knitting with double pointed needles or Magic Loop method, decreasing, Twisted German CO, Kitchener stitch, picking up stitches.
