I was browsing on Instagram when I came across a post of a gorgeous pair of gloves. They were decorated with a stitch pattern that I had never seen before, and I had to know what it was. I contacted the maker, and he generously shared with me his “recipe” for the cable pattern with which I had fallen in love. I’ve since learned that it’s called the Elongated Caliper Cable. It took me a few more months to come up with a design I liked, as well as find a yarn that would show off this cable. The Linea Pura Cashsilk Degradé yarn is an interesting blend of cashmere goat, bamboo, and nylon that is fashioned into a tubular ribbon. It makes this cowl so soft, lightweight, and quick to make. It’s a joy to knit with. My cowl is named after the generous artisan knitter from Slovakia that inspired me: Krytof Klestil.

Construction
The Klestil Cowl is worked from the bottom up, in the round, and begins with garter stitch ridges. It then goes right into the dual cable patterns, which are paired with columns of stockinette. Both cable patterns are so easy to do, and instructions are written for working without a cable needle. A few simple decreases are added just before the top of the cowl is finished with garter ridges. Both written and charted instructions are included. This pattern is easy to memorize after a couple of rounds and works up quickly.

The Linea Pura Cashsilk Degradé yarn is an interesting blend of cashmere goat, bamboo, and nylon that is fashioned into a stretchy tubular ribbon. It makes this cowl so soft, lightweight, and quick to make. A smooth wooden needle, or metal one with rounded tip, is recommended for knitting with this type of yarn to prevent any possible snagging. Other super bulky yarns can be successfully substituted.

Yarn Used: Lana Grossa Linea Pura Cashsilk Degradé, (Super Bulky 40% Nylon, 30% Rayon from Bamboo, 15% Silk, 15% Cashmere goat 82 yds/75 m per ball); sample uses 2 balls #110.

Yardage: 126-153 yds; 115-140 m.

Needles: US #11 (8 mm); length 24” (60 cm) circular
needle is recommended or size to obtain gauge.

Gauge: 21 st x 26 rnds = 5” (13 cm square) worked
in the round, in cable pattern, and unblocked. A different gauge will affect drape, yardage required, and size. Swatch in the round for an accurate gauge (tutorial link).

Size: Circumference 20-22”, (51-56) cm measured from top to bottom; Depth 8” (20 cm). Lana Grossa Linea Pura Cashsilk Degradé yarn is very stretchy, so the cowl fits easily over the head.

Notions Required: Tapestry needle, unique BOR stitch marker, 3 stitch markers for horizontal repeats.

Skills Needed: Knitting in the round, k2tog, slipping stitches, cables without cable needle (instructions provided), elongated st (instructions provided).
