Knee Deep Shawl
“Knee deep in the water somewhere
Got the blue sky, breeze and it don’t seem fair
Only worry in the world
Is the tide gonna reach my chair…”
- Zac Brown Band w/ Jimmy Buffett
This listing is for a PDF (instant-download) of the Knee Deep Shawl Crochet Pattern, named after the song Knee Deep by Zac Brown Band featuring Jimmy Buffett and is part of Yarntuary’s Jimmy Buffett collection!
The pattern contains clear, detailed instructions and pictures over nine pages so get ready to relax and crochet away, imagining yourself at the beach wearing this gorgeous shawl!
The majority of the shawl is made by repeating a set of rows that are easy to remember and quick to work up. With only one hank of sock weight yarn, you can make it in under 6 hours!
This beachy shawl has beautiful drape and a pretty, geometric pattern. It sits perfectly on the shoulders with no fuss and is light and flowing.
The pattern will tell you how to make a skinnier and wider shawl using 1 hank of Yarntuary yarn (make in under 6 hrs), 2 hanks of Yarntuary yarn (make in under 11 hrs) or 2 hanks of Coastal Cotton yarn (make in under 7 hours).
Measurements (width x height in inches; includes fringe):
With 1 hank Yarntuary yarn: 12.5 x 72
With 2 hanks Yarntuary yarn: 27 x 72
With 2 skeins Coastal Cotton: 20 x 72
Materials:
-1-2 hanks Yarntuary’s fingering weight/sock yarn; color Knee Deep Shown (80% merino wool, 10% cashmere and 10% nylon, 452 yd, 100 g).
-Size E (3.5 mm) crochet hook
-Tapestry needle and scissors
-Rust-proof pins and/or blockers to block shawl are also used in the pattern.
OR
-2 hanks Loops and Threads Coastal Cotton yarn - colors Indigo and Blush shown (90% cotton, 10% acrylic, 204 yd/187m, 100g/3.5 oz, weight 4)
-Size I (5.5 mm) crochet hook
-Tapestry needle and scissors
It is also super easy to use this pattern with 2-3 hanks of ANY YARN you would like (looks best in lace, fingering/sock, sport, DK or a light worsted like Coastal Cotton or Scheepjes Stone Washed; if choosing the stone washed I would get 3 skeins).
The skill level of this pattern is advanced beginner to intermediate. If in doubt whether you will be able to make it, take the plunge! There are plenty of pictures and I am here to help if you get stuck!
Stitches used are chain, slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet. You will need to know or learn/Google how to do each of these crochet stitches. I do have a section at the end showing how a sl is worked in this pattern. Feel free to reach out to me as well if you are confused about a stitch and I will send you pictures and instructions to help you tackle that.
To print without pictures, “Select All” in PDF and paste to a Word document.
