This sideways-knitted bag is worked in one piece, with the strap appearing to grow out of the top and disappearing into the base. Although the section where the strap joins the main body of the bag looks daunting, the effect is achieved very easily and full instructions are included in the pattern. Cables are used to give an interesting texture, and the bag is lined to prevent stretching in use.

The design was inspired by the ‘impossible’ artwork of M C Escher.
