This is a simple, bottom up, summer or spring top for an infant or toddler. You can knit this with two strands of lace weight yarns held together to achieve the three or four color gradient affect, or knit it in solid. Use cotton yarn for a lovely summer top, knit in wool for a spring top, and layer with a long sleeve onesie if you want to make it warmer! You also have the choice of buttons on the back, or buttons on the front. This little vest is truly versatile! Should be appropriate for beginner, intermediate, or advanced knitters.

Alternative Yarn Choices: You may choose to use other types of lace weight yarns held together in the same manner as written in the pattern. You can also choose to omit the gradient and hold two strands of one color lace weight yarn together. You may also choose to knit the pattern with one strand of sock weight yarn. The pattern is not written for the last two options, but it is a simple alteration that just requires using the overall body length measurement. As long as gauge is achieved, any of these options will work. For lace weight options, you will need approximately 600 (700, 800, 1000) yards of yarn, held double. For a sock weight option, you will need approximately 300 (350, 400, 500) yards of yarn.
