Knit Dickey
This knitted piece was inspired by hand-stitching processes of quilting and basting embroidered samplers. Like a sampler, it displays an array of stitch patterns all created using knit, purl, and slipped stitches. The dickey is constructed by stacking rectangles of different shapes, building outward in a tessellating formation, similar to a log cabin quilt. I wanted to create an accessory that could be faster to knit than a whole sweater, and be a great project for a gift to make, wear, and give away. It’s a striking and unusual accessory; once worn, it is surprisingly useful as an extra layer! The ties mean that it stays put, unlike a shawl; and it adds warmth under a jacket without adding bulk at the arms.
