Hit a homerun, and wear something fun and different you’ve knit for your favorite baseball team’s season! First, a tube is worked in the round in brioche. Beads are used to keep track of each game’s score. Then at the end of the season, the ends of the tube are joined to make a warm and squishy cowl.

If you’re game, this pattern can be knit for different sports and the number of games in their season by adjusting the number of rounds knit per game. This is truly a unique accessory to show your love for your boys of summer!

This pattern can be knit for any season. The pattern is named for the season it was designed. Video links are provided.

The knitting of this pattern is based on events as they happen. The main color switches between home games and road games. This creates alternating blocks of color on your tube. You are “knitting the season” by using beads to record the score of each game.

The circumference of the finished cowl depends on the number of games played by your team during the season. There are 162 regular season games. If your team does not make the postseason or if you choose not to knit the postseason, the approximate circumference is 52”/132 cm. If your team makes the postseason and you would like to include those games and depending on how many games they play in the postseason, the approximate maximum circumference is 58”/147.5 cm.

Approx. 1,200 yds/1,098 m total of fingering weight yarn:
600 yds/549 m of one color for Home Games (HC)
600 yds/549 m of a second color for Road Games (RC)

US size 3/3.25 mm 16”/40 cm circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge
A second US size 3/3.25 mm 16”/40 cm circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge (for Three-Needle Bind-off)
Size F/3.75 mm crochet hook for crochet provisional cast-on
Approx. 800 size 6 Japanese seed beads in each of 2 different colors for a total of 1,600 beads
Note: Beads per gram can vary by manufacturer. By weight, 800 beads is between approximately 47 grams and 67 grams, depending on the manufacturer
1.0 mm-1.15 mm small crochet hook for placing beads

Finished Measurements:
Tube: 6.75”/17 cm measured flat; 13.5”/34 cm in circumference
Finished cowl: Between 52”/132 cm and 58”/147.5 cm around
