Knit with No Name
Knit With No Name comes in two different versions: a plain stockinette version, and one with a lace pattern on the lower part of the body.
This cardigan is inspired by my grandmother’s lovely “bed jackets”, which she would knit out of the softest, whitest, most fluffy angora imaginable. She’d wear them to bed, to keep her shoulders nice and warm – they were much shorter than this and had elbow-length sleeves. I believe she called them her “soul-warmers”, and I loved them. I still remember the soft feeling of grandma’s fluff when she’d read to me in bed!
It is knit in two steps: First you knit the top part from sleeve to sleeve, and then you pick up stitches to knit the body top down.
Sizes: 1-2-3
Shoulder to shoulder: 54-66-78 cm /21.26-26-31 inches (it is difficult to measure a bust circumference on an open-fronted cardigan, but these are the measurements from the outside of one shoulder to the outside of the other shoulder)
Fit: Knit With No Name is designed to be worn with some positive ease, but not too much. The sample is worn with approximately 2 inches of ease. It can of course be worn with more or less ease, according to your personal preference. The open front and asymmetrical construction will allow for extra room, and it is not designed to be closed.
As a rule of thumb:
- if your bust circumference is smaller than 95 cm / 37 inches, you should probably knit size 1.
- if your bust circumference is 95-120 cm / 37-47 inches, you should probably knit size 2.
- if your bust circumference is more than 120 cm / 47 inches, you should probably knit size 3. Yardage: 820-850-1000 meter / 900-930-1094 yards fingering weight merino or sock yarn, held together with 820-850-1000 meter / 900-930-1094 yards lace weight mohair. The example is knit in By Kiilerich Silje, in the colorway Fiftyfabulous: https://bykiilerich.com/collections/silje and Drops Kid Silk, color 10 /grey Needles: circular needles size 4 mm / US6 and 6 mm/ US10, minimum 60 cm / 24 inches long. If you don’t work the sleeves with the Magic Loop technique, you will also need small circumference circulars or DPNs for those. Please note that needle size is only a suggestion. Always use the needles with which you can obtain gauge! Gauge: 15 sts x 20 rows in stockinette stitch on larger needle = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 inches.
