This hat was designed for a class at The Swift Stitch in Santa Cruz, CA. The band is knitted first, connected, then stitches are picked up for the crown. The band can be knitted to any length, insuring a custom fit.

The amount of yarn needed varies according to head size, firmness of desired fabric, depth of crown, etc. The original was knit with one skein of Cascade 128. Several people had to come back for a second skein.

And one person made several hats using Malabrigo Worsted. She only needed one skein per hat. Her bands were narrower, but the hats looked great.
