This pattern is available from kulabradesign.com for $7.00.

This triangular shawl is worked from bottom up and can be knitted any size. Technique-wise, it uses mosaic knitting and some novel trick (phototutorial included in the PDF) that makes thing even easier. Most of this shawl is just stripes, with only one color used per row.

The overall pattern look heavily depends on your choice of colors. Use brights for flowers, white for snowflakes, or some fiery tones on dark background for the stars. Some people say those “gears” look like baby tortoises! Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, as always ;)).

You will need:

  • 3.5mm circular needles with long wire.
  • fingering-weight yarn. For the shawl as on the photo, you will need 600m of background color (BC, shown brown) and about 300m of contrasting color (CC, off-white).
  • 2 stitch markers (optional). Gauge: one gear is approx. 8.5X8.5 cm Size: the prototype drops 68 cm, with 180 cm wingspan. The shawl can be made any size.
