Knitted Diamond Family Hats
This downloadable .pdf file knitting pattern describes hats in seven sizes, from prem baby to adult size. Circumference 26cm (10 inches) up to 44cm (17 1/4 inches). These measurements are in an unstretched state, the largest size will fit up to 56 to 58cm head circumference.
The yarn used is a double knitting weight, 22 stitches and 19 rows to 10cm (4 inches) with size 4mm (UK No. 8) knitting needles and 3.25mm (UK No. 10) double ended knitting needles.
Stitch abbreviations are explained and photographs show how the hat is constructed.
Working from crown to band, the hat is made one square at a time, entrelac style. Stitches are picked up from two squares to form the next square or triangle. The hat is worked flat to begin with and then joined by picking up the stitches for last few squares and triangles from main part of the hat. The points of the “crown” are joined by sewing them together.
An ideal pattern for using up left over yarn. Although the photographs show the hats made with plain dyed yarn, random or variegated yarns work really well.
