Knitted Nordic Sweater
This book is sold through Joan Hind’s website Fancy work and Fashion. Go to Patterns and books and scroll down the page. It is available for $9.95. Knit and Crochet for 18” Dolls The small booklet (20 pp) contains patterns for 4 knitted sweaters, a crocheted poncho, 2 caps, scarf and purse, a knitted hat, 2 scarves, slippers and purse. Only one of these designs is mine.
This sweater requires 3 colors, but very small amounts of the 2nd and 3rd colors. Left-over yarn will do for those if you have it. If you have to buy 3 skeins of yarn, you should be able to get 3 sweaters out of the 3 skeins by using a different main color for each sweater. You can also get one sweater and cap out of one ball for the background color. I’m not sure if you would get 3 sweaters and 3 caps out of 3 skeins. I have also done it in just 2 colors--black and white. That’s a very easy change to make. If you look at the 3 pictures here, you’ll see that they are each a bit different. I tweaked the pattern a time or two, but the differences are minor.
If you make this sweater ask me for the pattern for the hat. It’s not in the book, but I’ll get it to you for free. It’s pretty simple and uses the same motif patterns as in the book. There are 2 versions of the cap.
To help you understand the finishing process check out the pictures on the project page for the green sweater. There are several pictures there that I took during the finishing of that sweater.
