Knitted Pattern for a Quilt, Octagons and Squares
by Weldons
From Weldon’s Practical Knitter, Thirteenth Series, page 11, (pattern and illustration), originally published c. 1888. This pattern can also be found in Interweave Press’s facsimile edition of Weldon’s Practical Needlework, Volume Five.
“A very handsome quilt may be knitted in octagons…the spaces between the octagons being filled in with small squares. Use Strutt’s kntting cotton No. 6 and four No. 14 steel knitting needles.” Modern size needles would be 2mm/US0.
The pattern is entirely in text. There are no charts. Since it is an historical pattern, there is no gauge, either.
