knitted rooster and other birds
This is a pattern for a rooster but can be adapted to make other birds by using different colours of yarn. Tension not critical, or is the type of yarn used, just use a smaller than usual needle size to obtain a tighter tension so stuffing doesn’t come out. The samples in the pattern use about 10g of a main colour of dk acrylic yarn and oddments of another colour for wings, black for the eyes and yellow for the beak. About 12g of stuffing was used.
The birds are constructed seamlessly, by knitting in the round and casting on using a Turkish cast on, or any seamless cast on usually found in toe-up socks, and a three needle bind off. It is possible to cast on and off as normal and then sew up the tail seam afterwards.
The model birds were knitted with the magic loop method but dpn’s can be used, you may need 5 as there are 84 sts maximum.
This pattern is for someone with some experience of knitting due to the interesting construction.
