Knitted Square: Southwestern Geometric
This pattern was inspired by the designs I often see in southern New Mexico. I love southwestern design, but rarely see it in knitting patterns, so I am creating my own. The pattern includes pictures of the geometric design knitted in multicolored yarn and in solid color, plus an image of the design with embroidery added to use as an embellishment on a pillow (no instructions on pillow making, just the knitted square).
For washcloths and dishcloths, I recommend 100% cotton yarn because it is much more absorbent. If you used the design for a pillow front, purse or other project, you could use other yarns.
One skein of the recommended cotton yarns will easily make one knitted square with some left over. You will also need #7 US needles (4.5 mm) and a large-eyed tapestry needle for weaving in ends. I recommend making a copy of the chart so you can mark on it to keep track of your place and using a sticky note above each line as you knit. If the doorbell rings, it is easy to get lost.
