This is a knitted vase coaster from an 1840s knitting pattern in Miss Watts’ second series of The Ladies’ Knitting and Netting Book, on pages 30-31. It is knit up in six separate pieces which are then sewn together and bordered with a sewn on knitted fringe. The pattern calls for two No. 14 needles, which comes out to approximately 2mm knitting needles in metric sizes.
