The Knitterbug Shawl is a good beginner’s pattern that uses a few standard knitting elements: garter stitch, yarn-over increases, and an I-cord edging. If you are familiar with these elements you will whiz through this pattern. If you are not familiar with any of these, you will be happy to learn these simple and commonly used techniques, and end up with a lovely, functional shawl or scarf.

Any yarn will do, but I recommend a variegated yarn from your stash. Use whatever size needle is recommended for your yarn weight. The finished size is up to you.
