Knitting Jenny 13: Fair Isle Mittens
Knitting Jenny Pattern 13: Fair Isle Inspired Shetland Mittens and Design Workbook is a modern interpretation of a traditional Scottish plaid.
Yarn suggestions include 100% pure Shetland wool in a 2 ply jumper weight, or substitute any fingering weight or 2 ply equivalent to a 4 ply.
This pattern features circular knitting construction, from the wrist upward to the fingertip, as well as a cuff with folded picot hemmed edge, or you can substitute any ribbing (or other edge).
These mittens offer a fully adjustable length and width, with instructions on how to do so.
Suggested knitting needle sizes are:
2.0mm needles (for the inside of the cuff)
2.5mm needles (for the outside of the cuff, hand, and thumb)
The following wool quantities are suggested for this pattern:
Two 25-gram balls of Shade 81, Black as the main color
Five 25-gram balls of different colors of your own choosing.
The pattern includes the specific colors/numbers that were used to knit the mittens in the images.
However, this pattern is an especially good usage of scraps of leftover yarn from other knitting projects. With a dark or black background (as shown in the images), any varying yarn colors can be used if they contrast with the dark background.
This pattern provide all the instructions, advice, and graphs necessary to knit the mittens featured in the pattern images.
In addition to the mitten pattern, the PDF also includes a Design Workbook with templates, which will enable you to create your own one-of-a-kind mitten designs.
The Design Workbook includes additional information useful to know before creating new designs in Shetland wool. The Workbook begins with a chapter, titled, Shetland Geography, then continues with a discussion of Shetland Knitting History and an overview of Shetland Knitting Tools. Color Theory is also included in the Design Workbook as color is a key ingredient to successful knitting designs. Lastly, design tips and mitten templates are included to support your creative design journey.
The pattern includes 122 pages and 15,401 words with 56 figures.
