This is a pattern for a mosaic overlay crochet square with a koala on it. It’s crocheted in the round, so it starts in the middle.

You can use this as a coaster or make more squares and connect them to make, for example, a blanket.

As a coaster, this is 14.3 by 14.3 cm after blocking, made with cotton fingering yarn and a 2 mm hook.

The coaster I made is 35 grams total, you need more of the background color than of the second color. Note that I used ankered double crochet stitches, which takes more yarn.

The pattern includes a written pattern, a chart and a short explanation of how to close rounds and how to make the corners.
It does not include tutorials for the stitches nor for the overlay mosaic crochet technique.

This pattern may be a bit difficult for beginners, although mosaic crochet itself is easy to understand.
