Kōkōwai cardi is a classic mid to low thigh length cardi, featuring a shawl collar, a hint of waist shaping in the back and cable panels running down the front.

It is intended to be convenient, comfortable and versatile.

Despite its longer length it’s designed with time-saving features so it’s not too daunting:

• cable work is kept to feature panels.
• the bands and collar are worked as you go, rather than separately, with no stiches to pick up.
• A combination of mohair lace-weight yarn held together with a dk (8ply) yarn is used to make a quick-knit (with about 40% less stiches than if knitted in just an average dk yarn), which is also light and luxuriously soft.

The cardi got its name from the ‘kōkōwai’ red ochre colour chosen for the example in the images.
