Komorebi is the Japanese word for dappled light that gently filters through the spaces between leaves and their branches. The contrast between sun and shadow is a dance, a romantic and emotional love story that teaches us to appreciate the good as well as the bad things in life, for they are intrinsically connected. One cannot exist without the other. This poetic gesture, reflected through nature, embodies the fundamental belief in slowing down and learning to cherish each subtle moment as it happens.

This wrap is a collaboration with Knitting Niqabi, whose work is incredibly reflective of this philosophy. Kelcey naturally dyed yarn with plants and flowers to create vivid expressions of colour and texture on unique, sustainably sourced fiber. The process takes a great deal of time and care, and an appreciation of the remarkable things that grow all around us.

Komorebi features and all over intricate lace pattern with a mesh border and a triangle of stockinette. It wouldn’t be a Stitchin Witch design without something unexpected and a little strange, so there are also some lateral braids and traveling cables. I used Hitomi Shida’s book, 250 Japanese Knitting Stitches to design this with, and while the pattern only includes written instructions, if you would like to knit from the chart, I cannot recommend this stitch dictionary enough. It has completely changed the way I look at knitting and is truly an invaluable resource.
