The name Kumpela means a buddy, a person whose company you enjoy and who you can rely on in every situation. And such is the shawl – it can be worn loose or wrapped around, it can be used as a pareo or a warm winter wrap.
The shawl is a regular triangle starting at one corner, the pattern is repetitive and it combines lace and garter stitch elements thus giving the shawl lightness and texture.

The size depends on the number of repeats of the pattern. You can also customize the shawl by using different yarns and needle sizes.

The shawl is quite easy to knit if you know some basic lace stitches – increasing, decreasing and yarnovers. It is also fun to knit, intuitive and yet complicated enough to give you a feeling of achievement. If you choose a gradient yarn you will get additional pleasure from watching the colours change.

Yarn – any ranging from light fingering to sport or even DK.
For the gradient I used a 1000m, 3-thread cake from Kokonki, the shawl measures 87” x 36” / 220 x 90cm. The solid one is done in Rainbow Cotton 8/4 from Hobbii on US 2 ½ / 3.0mm needles, the shawl measures 81x31½“ / 205x83cm.~

Needles - any size according to the yarn you use.

Gauge is not crucial and depends on the yarn and needles you choose to knit with.

Supplies - stitch markers, tapestry needle to weave in yarn ends, pins.

Wszystko zależy od włóczki, z jakiej jest wykonana oraz od rozmiaru, który można dowolnie modyfikować.
Wzór jest powtarzalny, przeplata się w nim ażur i elementy ściegiem francuskim, dzięki takiemu zestawieniu chusta nabiera lekkości i wyrazistości.

Rozmiar chusty można dowolnie regulować ilością powtórzeń wzoru, zależy on też od grubości użytej włóczki i sposobu dziergania.

Włóczka – w zależności od przeznaczenia chusty od cienkiej fingering do zupełnie grubej typu DK, czyli od ok 500 do 200m na 100g.
Na gradientową chustę zużyłam motek 3 nitki 1000m od Kokonków, druty 3mm, wymiary 220 x 90cm. Wersja jednokolorowa jest zrobiona z bawełny Raibow Cotton 8/4 od Hobbii na drutach 3,5mm, wymiary 205x83cm.

Druty – dobrane do włóczki, dla wersji zwiewnej oczka powinny być dość duże i luźne.
