SKILLS
To knit this sweater you need to know how to knit
and purl, knit in the round, cast on stitches with
any method (although the long-tail cast-on is recommended),
make increases with the “make one
away” technique (the one most commonly used
to cast on stitches at the underarm, also known as
the backwards loop method), pick up stitches, make
decreases, and to bind off stitches, as well as being
familiar with knitting cables.
CONSTRUCTION
This sweater is knit top-down, i.e., it is started to
knit at the neckline, and then you will knit the yoke,
separate sleeves from body, and continue knitting the
body in the round. Then the resting sleeve stitches
are placed back on the needles and the sleeves are
knit in the round to the cuff. It is worked seamlessly,
all in one piece, in stockinette stitch in the round
with a very simple cable motif at the yoke. The body
and the sleeves are finished with a ribbing.
GAUGE
24 stitches and 34 rows in 10 x 10 cm 4 x 4”
in stockinette stitch, without blocking.
YARN
7 (7, 8, 8, 9, 9) balls of Baby Cashsoft Merino by
Rowan (57% Wool, 33% Acryl, 10% Cashmere;
50 g / 130 m; 1.76 oz / 142 yd).
The colourways used are the Nutkin 121 for
the brown version, and the Piglet 122 for the
pink version.
NEEDLES
3.5 mm US 4 circular needles with a cable
length of 40 cm 16” for the neckband and
yoke and 80 cm 32” for the body, or the required
needle size to obtain gauge (without
blocking).
OTHER NOTIONS
1 stitch marker for the beginning of the round.
Cable needle. Tapestry needle to weave in ends.
