The cuff of this ethnographic mitten uses a series of knit and purl rows (garter stitch) plus a band. Five colors in all are required for this mitten though only one or two are used at any one time. This design is an ancient symbol. The chart for this mitten appears only in Latviesa Cimdi and not in the subsequent translations of the book.
