Kwaidan
This scarf is a little homage to Masaki Kobayashi’s phenomenally beautiful 1964 film-version of the Japanese ‘Kwaidan’ horror tales. The film is abundantly rich in color and contrast, pairing blood and tears with delicious fright. There is a yearning for exquisite shiver in all of us. And apparently blue and red juxtaposed provide the fiercest contrast to the human eye. Now that is just right.
The scarf is knit back and forth with a light and airy lace cashmere (or laceweight alpaca) held together with a crisp cobweb silk stainless. The resulting fabric is luxurious and drapey. The scarf has asymmetric ends : one pointy and short rowed, the other straight. The added fringe is optional.
The materials used are :
-1 cone of ColourMart Cashmere 3/28NM Heavy Lace Weight shade Royal Blue (approx. 830 meters used)
(alternatively : 3 skeins of Shibui Cima shade UV)
-3 cones of Habu A-20 silk stainless (277 meters per cone) color 18 bright red
-optional for fringe : 1 ball of Filatura di Crosa Superior shade shocking red or any other spectacular fringy stuff!
Measurements :
-length : approx 1.80 meters
-width : approx 35 cm
Gauge is not at all essential but using at least 4.5mm needles is recommended to attain a light and sheer stocking-stich fabric.
