Kyla is a popular Scottish name, meaning ‘narrow spit of land’, a thin stretch of land that projects from the shore into the sea, often outlined with spectacular, sandy beaches.

This easy to knit shawl is adjustable in size and suitable for fingering or lace weight yarns with a yardage from 440 yd (400 m) to 1200 yd (1100 m) or more, the choice is yours.

It is worked from the top down using just one lace pattern and a simple edging pattern. Using a second colour for the edging makes an attractive pattern variation.

The purple sample shawl has been made with one skein of Eden Cottage BFL Sock yarn, 100% wool, 436 yd (399 m) per skein, col. Buddleja, and on US size 5 (3.75mm) needles. The finished measurements are 47” (120 cm) wide and 22” (56 cm) deep.

The yellow Lace shawl, made with 880 yd (800 m) Artesano Alpaca Silk Lace, 70% alpaca, 30% silk, 439 yd (400 m) per 50g skein, col. Daffodil, and worked on US size 4 (3.5mm) needles, measures 71” (180 cm) x 34” (85 cm).

The size of the shawl can easily be varied with more or fewer repeats of the main pattern.

The pattern is in form of charts and with complete written instructions. It only uses basic lace stitches such as left and right leaning decreases and a centre double decrease. All wrong side rows are purled.

The pattern is suitable for advanced beginners.
