La Casa Cowl
I used to spend all my vacations at my Mamá Yoya and Papá Neto’s home in Mazatlán. My clearest and happiest memories are from there. I can picture myself standing in the courtyard. The large stone staircase is to my left with the banisters I used to slide down. Behind me are the mustard front doors and white wood gate that were usually open so that a breeze could come and whisper us hello. In front of me is the garden filled with the red star flowers I used to make bracelets and necklaces out of. I can see the palo I would use to smack guayabas off the tree whenever my Papá Neto asked for one. The home smells like Trini cooking, fresh guayabas, sun kissed linens, and Fabuloso. I’m surrounded by more rocking chairs than one could imagine. I see my family all sitting in one. Rocking and talking. I look down at the floor and the tiles are large and beautiful. There are wood pillars and wood beams. Everything is a beautiful contrast, black and white, pink and green, yellow and blue. There are so many rooms in the home. All of them with stories to share.
La Casa Cowl was designed in memory of the tile floors, beams and pillars in my Mamá Yoya and Papá Neto’s home. Large, filled with contrast, and yet simple in design. Knit in a super bulky weight yarn, this two-color linen stitch cowl is an easy entry into colorwork. It can be worn with the right side facing for a bold contrast or with the wrong side facing if you are in the mood for something more subtle. I hope you enjoy knitting it as much as I enjoy the memories it came from.
