Designed for Hats of Saffron Walden project for Craft Days in Saffron Walden.
This design was inspired by the “Turf Maze” found on The Common in Saffron Walden. It is a Labyrinth not a maze. In a labyrinth you follow the twisting path until you reach the end whereas, in a maze you have to choose which way to turn.
The Turf Maze is the largest example of this style of maze in England, the main part is about 100 feet (30 m) in diameter. The earliest record of it dates from 1699, although its origin may be earlier.
