Lace and Pearls Dress for Kitty Cat
I have three kitties who are all leash trained and go with me everywhere every single day. On cold days they love to have pretty sweaters to keep them warm. They bring them to me to put on them when they get cold and they sometimes take them off and put them by their bowl if they are too hot. When I originally made their first sweater it was a bit of a lark and I didn’t expect them to be so receptive. Now though, they have full wardrobes and always appreciate new additions. it’s virtually impossible to find clothes that fit kitties at the pet store - they are odd shaped little creatures. Dog garments are generally too big in the neck, too binding at the arms, and too short to keep them warm. I admit, this dress is a bit eccentric but they all love them. I hope your kitty will love one too!
Pattern Notes
This pattern includes two sizes - one for 6-9 pound cat (about one to two years old) and another for a 10-15 pound cat. I have made many small sweaters over the years for my kittens as they grow but they grown so quickly they don’t manage to wear them for more than a month before they’ve outgrown it. Because this is such a detailed pattern, I have only included the two sizes that will fit most adult cats. It would be completely unrealistic to make this for a growing kitten.
I chose a lace weight, wool / acrylic blend yarn that is easily washable, lightweight, and warm but not too warm to be uncomfortable.
*I consider this is an experience or advanced pattern.** It employs both knitting in the round on double pointed needles as well as lace crochet. You will need to understand basic garment construction, how to cast on, bind off, work rib, pick up knit stitches, crochet with pearls (however that is optional), and be able to work with wool blend yarns. The pattern is offered as is. It was designed for cats weighting 6 to 9 pounds (small) and 10-15 pounds (large). Pattern changes for the large size are in brackets and it bold throughout the pattern. Cats have a longer body structure and smaller head than dogs do so I do not guarantee, nor do I suggest, that you make this pattern with the intentions of it fitting your dog. It probably wont. I do not respond to personal requests to adjust patterns to different yarn brands, weights, blends, optional needle sizes. Nor do I respond to personal requests to adjust the pattern to fit your dog, iguana, bird, alligator, boyfriend, child, or otherwise. Believe it or not, people actually send those emails.
