Lace Sleepy Cap
in newborn size
Gauge: 21 st in 4in/10cm in stockinette stitch. Row gauge is not important in this case.
Recommended yarn: any to obtain the gauge. Worsted for regular look, or thinner yarn on larger needles for daintier look.
Recommended needle size: to obtain the gauge. Your needle size might vary depending on how tight or loose your knitting is. Please be sure to make a gauge swatch to make sure you obtain the gauge.
You will need: yarn, knitting needles, darning needle to weave in the yarn ends and to sew the back of the hat.
The hat is knit flat.
This pattern works best if the yarn you choose is smooth, with great stitch definition, in a solid color. The flower pattern itself is quite “busy” and it looks best when all is knit in one solid color.
This particular lace thing is quite tricky. With all the increases and decreases you will be getting a different number of stitches in each row. Seriously. I know, it is confusing! I have done all the math and there is the number of stitches you will be having on your knitting needles after each row in complete. It is written right after each row.
The pattern (along with 21 other newborn sized patterns) in newborn size only is also included in the book Tiny Knits for Tiny People (it is available on Amazon).
