Based on the Swedish Dubbelmossa hat, this is a double thickness hat with each half a different stitch and color. You’ll work one long tube with closed ends. The first half starts with a provisional cast-on for a straight stockinette hat worked with handspun yarn (or commercial worsted if you don’t have handspun). Once the first half is decreased and fastened off, pick up the provisional stitches, switch yarns and change to the lace pattern for the proper length, decrease for the other end of the tube and fasten off. Stuff one end inside the other, turn up the cuff and you’re good to go!

I used about 100 yards of Nature Spun Worsted for the lace half and 180 yards of my handspun worsted singles for the solid half. My testers used slightly different amounts so I’ve adjusted the yarn requirements to allow for individual differences.

Although I used a solid color for the lace and a multicolored yarn for the solid portion, there’s no rule that says the solid portion can’t be a solid color and the mesh a riot of multicolored yarn. This hat is meant for fun!
