Lacey Mitered Squares Scarf
FINISHED SIZE: Approx. 8” wide x 60” long, blocked
YARN: Two colors of DK weight yarn: designated as MC (dark color, need 400 yards) and CC (light color, need 200 yards). Model worked in MC – Elsebeth Lavold Designer’s Choice Silky Wool
– 45% wool, 35% silk, 20% Nylon (50g/1.76 oz-175m/192 yds), Color 182, 2 hanks; CC – The Alpaca Yarn Co. Mariquita fingering weight, 50% baby alpaca/50% tencel (3.5 oz/100g/400 yds), 1 hank.
NEEDLES: US size 7 (4.50 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge. Size G crochet hook for making fringe.
NOTIONS: Row counter, tapestry needle.
GAUGE: 20 sts & 32 rows = 4” in Garter Stitch
This is a fun scarf to knit. There is a lacey stitch on the outer edge of a mitered square and in the opposite corner from the lace is a smaller square in a different color. This is all done in garter stitch, so that both right and wrong sides look very similar. I alternated the squares with the contrasting color with plain squares, but you could put them in every square or make up your own design for placing the contrasting color squares. The fringe is optional, but I think it just finishes the scarf.
I used a single strand of fingering weight yarn for the contrasting color and it worked fine.
