This scarf is a crochet companion to the official knitted scarf of the 2019 Greater Boston Yarn Crawl, named “Knitted Lacy Crescent Scarf”.

For the duration of the Crawl, this pattern is available for free on the GBYC website, and with yarn purchase at participating shops. After October 6, 2019 the price will be $5.

The crocheted scarf begins with an unusual eyelet foundation -- no worries, it’s easy-peasy, and beats counting out 200-million chains! The lacy ruffle trim is worked top/down into one side of the foundation, and the body of the scarf is worked bottom/up into the other side of the foundation. And best of all, you never need to break the yarn, so you’ll only have two ends to weave in!

The crescent shape is rendered with short rows and decreases, and the pattern shows you how and where to use markers to keep you on track.

Once you understand how the scarf is constructed, you can use this pattern to help you design your own deeper or shallower scarf, or enlarge it to a full-size shawl. Or experiment with other stitch patterns for the body of the shawl.
