Lacy Lightweight Cowl with Beads
All of my designs start with one question in mind: Is this something I like? It might seem a bit silly, but really, all my patterns have been created for me first, and if others happen to also like it that’s a bonus!
This design is no different. I have long loved the look of all those beautiful cowls I have seen all winter, but my skin is so super sensitive, that having something heavy or the least bit scratchy was definitely out of the question.
I knew Aunt Lydia’s Bamboo Crochet Thread from Red Heart Yarns would be perfect for my envisioned project. The fiber is so soft and silky, and the colors reflect that softness in some really pretty subtle colors with some lovely shine.
I was so sad to learn AFTER I started this project that Red Heart has discontinued making this glorious bamboo crochet thread! Knit Picks Curio though is a superbly soft cotton which will work perfectly for this, and any lace weight yarn can be substituted with great results.
I designed my cowl with a perfectly plain and simple center section, and then turned to a classic thread crochet motif, pineapples, for the borders. Adding in some tiny pearl-ish beads on the very last round gives it even more of a luxury feel.
Working as for Body of Cowl: 8 2-dc sets = 2.5 inches; 9 rows = 2.5 inches, although gauge is not critical for this project and minor variations will not affect the outcome.
