Lacy Short Row Toe Up Socks
This pattern is written for those who prefer to do the toes on toe up socks on straight needles. The toe starts with a provisional cast on so may need a little more experience. I use the crochet provisional cast on. The tutorial can be found at http://www.purlbee.com/2007/12/10/provisional-cast-on/
The toe of these socks is knitted on 2 straight needles using a short row method, which is fully explained. The foot is knitted in the round using 2 circular needles. The heel is made with short rows and worked the same as the toe. The leg and cuff are knitted in the round using 2 circular needles. The cuff is finished with a stretchy cast off.
The pattern is 10 + 1 for those who wish to use a different circular method. The foot is knitted with a pattern on top and stocking stitch on the bottom. The leg is patterned around.
Materials :
2 Circular needles 2.25mm or size required to get gauge
100g Sock Yarn – I used Schoeller + Stahl Fortissima Socka Mexiko color for this pair of socks
Crochet hook of 2.5mm if you use the same provisional cast on.
Stitches used:
Yo – yarn to front, creating a yarn over when next stitch knitted.
K2 tog – Knit 2 together
K2 tog-b – Knit 2 together through the back of the loops.
S2 K1 PSSO – Slip 2 stitches knitwise, knit next stitch and pass the slipped stitches over.
M1 – pick up yarn between 2 stitches and place on left needle. Knit through the back of loop to twist.
