Lacy wavy fingerless mitts
Fingerless mitts in a lacy wavy pattern, knitted in the round from the top down so that the top edges of the mitts are scalloped. The thumb gusset is in plain stocking stitch.
The stitches for the top of thumb gusset/bottom of thumb are cast-on using the provisional method in waste yarn so that, after the main part of the mitt has been knitted from the top down, it can be turned round and stitches from the provisional-cast on picked up and the thumb knitted the normal way round.
The mitts are kniited on double-pointed 3.25mm (10) needles for the main area and size 2.5mm (12) needles for the cuff.
The mitts were knitted in Louisa Harding Amitola, which goes a long way, and used about half the 50gm ball. In fact, I have knitted another pair of fingerless mitts using the rest of the yarn. The yarn is self-striping, the effect of which is enhanced by the scalloped pattern formed when the colours change.
The gloves in the photographs were knitted in Shade 106, which is a mix of blues, greys and beige. The way the yarn changes colour meant one mitt is in shades of light/dark grey and light/dark blue and the other mitt is in shades of mid/dark grey and beige. The second pair knitted, in a different pattern, also turned up with each mitt in the same colours as these!
The mitts can be knitted in any other 3/4ply yarn, but then probably about 30-40gm will be needed.
The knitting instructions are typed and in chart form.
Size: to fit average size hands. Width: approximately 9cm (3½”) when not stretched. Length from top of cuff pattern to cast-‐off edge: approximately 13cm (5”).
