I wanted to make a nice, warm, stylish cowl suitable for a man! I came across a stitch pattern that inspired me, and made it into this cow. Quite manly and handsome I think!
But then again, I think it would suit a woman too, with this pretty stitch detail.

The pattern comes in two sizes - the smaller “manly” which would also fit a woman, and the larger “bearlike” which is big, bulky, and warm!
I haven´t included any gauge, the cowl is usable whether a bit smaller or bigger than the intended size, and is a great stash-buster.

I used 1.5 skeins (75g) main color and a bit less than 1 skein (50g) pattern color for the one pictured in the pattern. For the larger size, I used a bit under 2 skeins (100g) MC and 1.5 skeins (75g) PC.
You can use either DK weight or sport weight for this pattern - but I suggest going up a size in needle to avoid the result becoming compact and stiff.
If you knit looser you´ll also use less yarn, and the cowl will get more of a “slouch” and softness to it.

It would do best to choose a no-scratch yarn, but with some “hold” to it. Merino wool/alpacca mixes or similar. The pattern turns out best with the main color a more tightly wound yarn. There´s no restrictions for the pattern color, but a fluffy yarn would look very nice in this pattern.

NOTE: the bind-off described in the pattern can become quite loose. Make sure to keep an eye on it and that it´s nice and tight enough, but not too tight.
