This pattern includes full instruction on how to knit this ladies Aran hat. It is knitted flat using straight knitting needles and therefore when the work is finished the back seam is sewn up. The pom pom was purchased online and these items are widely available. I always purchase detachable pom poms to enable easy washing of your hat.
