This pattern was original published as part of the 6 Muffatee Mystery Knit Along.

This historic (1847) muffatee is knit flat and then seamed. I prefer to graft mine together, hence the provisional cast on. I’ve also included instructions for 3 needle bind off, for those who don’t care to graft. Originally the point lace was knit separately and then sewn on. The suggested point lace pattern number 9 in its original form was full of errors. After much trial and error I have corrected the lace pattern. The original pattern was rather vague as to whether lace was added to both ends. If you want to add lace to both ends, you will need to knit a strip of lace by casting on 11 stitches and following the chart omitting the stitches to the right of the red line, then sewing the lace onto the edge. Some of you may find that you prefer the look of the wrong side over the right side, this is why I have been very specific on how to carry the color changes on the wrong side of your work. If you pay careful attention to your color carries the finished muffatees will be fully reversible.
