Every year I work on a personal project called the Box of Warm. Starting mid August and ending on December 31st, I work to fill a 30 gallon plastic container with gloves, mittens, hats, scarves, and cowls. Some I buy, Some I make. Anyone who comes in to my home has free access to that box. I don’t care who you are when you walk in, but when you leave you’re going to be warm. A family favorite is fingerless gloves. This year my husband was cleaning out an old backpack and found one of the first sets of fingerless gloves I had ever made, before I knew what ‘thumb gussets’ were and just put holes where I thought thumbs might end up sticking out. To my surprise, my kids preferred these, and asked that I make more.

I used a new colorway in I Love This Yarn Print: #822 Red Tweed. This is not ILTY Tweed- but Print. The “tweedy flecks” are single color printed on the yarn (versus multi colored flecks being spun on like ILTY Tweed in Red) causing it to be red with little black dots- hence Lady Bugs.

Skills needed for this project: Casting On, Knit Stitch, Purl Stitch, Binding Off, and knitting in the round.
