Lady Thistledown
Are you looking for a simple to knit, lightweight scarf for spring? Then look no further than the delightfully pretty Lady Thistledown.
This pattern has a very personal inspiration. In the days immediately after my Mum passed away, I needed something to focus on. And I decided to design a pattern that captured her spirit as a proud Scot with a penchant for knowing everyone’s story. And a chance sighting of a thistle tote bag gave me the design idea, and the pattern name…well, I couldn’t resist the play on words with a certain well known fictional social commentator.
I created an eye catching abstract lace-work thistle for the pattern’s motif…my Mum loved abstract designs…which is surrounded in a sea of stocking stitch. The edge of the scarf uses broken rib to keep it simple and clean. But there are two versions of this scarf: a fringed and non fringed versions, and the end borders are slightly different to take this into account. Overall, the pattern is simple and relaxing to knit, making it ideal for both beginners starting their lace-work journeys and more experienced knitters.
For this scarf pattern I have chosen 4ply/fingering weight yarn as I wanted to create a design that is not just a perfect spring knit, but that can also be worn throughout the year whenever you need a bit more warmth.
And whether you knit this scarf for yourself or a loved one, you can do so knowing that not only will you be creating something rather pretty, but by buying this pattern you will be helping those affected by cancer as I will be donating a portion of the proceeds to charity (see the charity and donation section at the end of the pattern for this year’s current charity.)
Happy Knitting!
