This is an 1847 pattern.

“This is a very comfortable and very pretty cuff, and like the French cushion, is simple and easy. It is knit in the brioche stitch, with two colours, which, according to the following directions, presents each side of a different colour - say, for instance, scarlet and black; one side will be all scarlet, and the other all black.”
