Lady's Open-Knit Stocking : Valenciennes Pattern
by Weldons
From the original :
“This exceedingly pretty stocking is worked with Strutt’s knitting cotton, No. 12, of which 7 ounces is required; this makes a strong useful pair. If a finer and more lacy-looking stocking is preferred, use the same firm’s crochet cotton, or Adern’s crochet cotton, no. 18. Or Pearsall’s knitting silk for a best stocking. In either case knit with four steel needles, No. 18.”
The weight of the yarn is thinner than modern lace weight. No. 18 needles are old U.K. sizes and translates to modern 1mm (US 00000).
No gauge given.
These stockings have a German heel, for which the pattern is included in the publication, and a star toe, for which the pattern is also included in the publication.
